Monty, No!

[This entry is a submission to Technosailor's Group Writing Project (Peeing Dog). Since it's for fun, I might as well join in.]

It didn’t matter how long Joe had been training with Monty. He loved to mark his territory wherever he went. Joe had tried to make him pee only in certain spots but Monty refused to listen and often sprinted towards a tree, lamp post or whatever object caught his nose. He was too caught up with ensuring that his territory was well documented in the neighbourhood.

There was once when Joe was talking to charming lady who was out with her labrador. He was about to ask her out for dinner when she shrieked. Monty had decided to mark her. Joe felt his dating chances slipping away fast. “MONTY! NO!” Monty looked at him and wagged his tail hard. The lady was never seen in the park again.

“Joe, why don’t you just send the mongrel away?” Jean, his sister, asked him after he had told her of his encounter. She had been the target of Monty’s marking a few times and hated it. Whenever he tried to get near to her, she would bark a sharp “NO!” and Monty would scurry away. Although she tried to get Joe to her place instead, there were times, he would be unable to make it. Today was one of those days. He was too upset about the lost of a possible date.

Jean had to her four-year-old twins to her mother-in-law as her husband had to work over time. When Joe couldn’t be comforted by his favourite apple pie, Jean grasped his shoulders, “Get a grip, lil brother. She isn’t the only one out there.”

“But she’s the 5th one that I let the chance slip away!” Joe wailed.

“Look, she’s the 5th one and each time, why did they disappear?” Joe didn’t look at her. “It’s all because of that mongrel. That white dog of yours that looks cute but isn’t toilet-trained.”

Joe’s shoulders slumped. He knew what was going to come out next, he would have to send Monty away. However, Jean said, “What if 2 little bugs were having a picnic and Monty decided to mark them?” The picture in his mind made him smile.

White dog pee on bugs picnic Monty would love to mark on anything and this time, the charming lady was someone he didn’t want to lose. It was his first time in wanting to see another lady again. The rest had felt like figments of memory in his mind.

His sister was right, either Monty had to go or be trained in an obedience class. Joe tried the latter before he did the ultimate. It was there that he met her again. His heart soared. He felt a strong tug on the leash, Monty was heading towards her. “Monty, NO!”
